79rs Gang

USA

79rs Gang was formed in 2013 when Big Chief Romeo Bougere of the 9th Ward Hunters and Big Chief Jermaine Bossier of the 7th Ward Creole Hunters put their differences aside and came together to make music, building on the deep roots of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian traditions they grew up with. This Afrocentric assimilation pays homage to the historical assistance offered their forebears by Native Americans. Gangs are known as tribes and the Big Chiefs play an important role in the costume making that begins as soon as the last Mardi Gras finishes. Both Bougere and Bossier come from families with storied connections to Mardi Gras and carry that ethos into 79rs Gang, working alongside drummer/producer Eric Heigle to fuse it with New Orleans funk and Hip-Hop, bringing masking to the masses.
