Cerys Hafana is a Welsh composer and multi-instrumentalist who mangles, mutates and transforms traditional music, exploring the creative possibilities of the Welsh triple harp, exposing it to found sounds, archival material and electronic processing, interpreting the traditional repertoire with a contemporary vision that sees the emotional content brought to new life, and seeking to overturn the view of the instrument as an almost sacred historical artefact of a better age, a view which she says “is an erasure of all the things that have changed for the better”. Her second album, Edyf, was selected as one of The Guardian’s Top Ten Folk Albums of 2022 and was shortlisted for the 2023 Welsh Music Prize. Cerys has performed extensively around the UK and Europe, including festivals such as Green Man, the National Eisteddfod, Reeperbahn and Trans Musicales.
