Florence Adooni is a leading voice of the thriving Frafra gospel scene of northern Ghana, which in recent years has spilled over the borders from its heartland in the city of Kumasi to the nation’s capital and beyond. Born and raised in Kumasi, she grew up singing gospel in church and became well known locally as a teenager with several single releases. Her voice has already been heard internationally as part of Ghanaian kologo virtuoso Guy One’s band, on Finnish electronica eccentric Jimi Tenor’s hit single, ‘Vocalize My Luv’, and with Alogte Oho and his Sounds of Joy, all championed by Berlin label Philophon. Now Florence is leading her own band on the label, spreading light and love with her own style melding Frafra gospel with southern Ghana styles and international influences.
