Katarina Barruk


From the Sábmie people, born in Sweden, and based in Norway is leading Sápmi singer Katarina Barruk. She is known for revitalising the Ume Sámi  language, her mother-tongue. She performs a fierce, yet deeply down-to-earth, mix of pop music, traditional yoik and improvisational elements. With a deep commitment to sustaining the language and representing her nation, Barruk’s music is imbued with a social, cultural and political urgency.
