Sutartronica

Lithuania

The resurgence of interest in the centuries-old tradition of Lithuanian polyphonic singing known as sutartinės, is indicative of a desire to include a sense of continuity within an automated modernity. Sutartronica do that by introducing the almost lost ritual art of songs and chants related to natural rhythms of working life, to the electronic beats, synths and samples of a world that never sleeps, connecting the spirits of village and urban lives on the dancefloor, to all-encompassing effect. The band consists of producer/musician Victor Diawara and folklore researcher and vocalist Laurita Peleniūtė, joined onstage by vocalists Viltė Ambrazaitytė and Eglė Jačauskienė, and, on opportunity, bass and drums. Already a favourite at clubs and festivals in Lithuania, this year has seen them performing at Tallin Music Week, Printemps de Bourges and, after WOMEX, Mundial Montreal.
