Yegor Zabelov

Belarus / Poland

In Yegor Zabelov’s hands, the accordion becomes a vehicle for mystical experiences. Performances take the form of a ritual, as he coaxes, cajoles, caresses and coerces the instrument to go where none have gone before, a place between Eastern European traditions and the throbbing ethereality of post-rave, beatless soundscapes. Zabelov began his musical education aged seven, continuing at Mogilev Conservatory and the Belarusian State Academy of Music, where he began composing and became interested in rock music. Since 2005 he has performed across Europe, Ukraine, Russia and Belarus with the Gurzuf Band and the Yegor Zabelov Trio, as well as composing for theatre and film. In recent years he has concentrated on his solo work, performing at European festivals across the genres, including Moers Jazz, Rudolstadt, Tallin Music Week, Ethno-Port, Eurosonic and many others.
