Hildá Länsman is a singer, yoiker, and musician from Utsjoki, the northernmost Finnish part of the Sápmi region. She grew up in a family of reindeer herders and yoikers, and her work is dedicated to furthering awareness of the often-marginalised Sámi culture. Recipient of multiple awards, her prolific output includes the experimental joiking duo, Vildá, ethno-progressive ensemble, Gájanas, and Solju, the ongoing project with her mother, renowned joik-moderniser, Ulla Pirttijärvi. In her new duo project with Finnish sound designer, composer, producer, Tuomas Norvio, Länsman brings the spirit of Sámi identity into Norvio’s intricate electronic soundscapes, brimming with urban urgency and metropolitan melancholy, setting a timely reminder of a deeper connection to the natural world echoing through concrete streets. Their immersive live show, featuring visual designs by Alice Marie Jektevik, premiered this summer at major Scandinavian festivals.
