Dawit Yifru

Ethiopia

Dawit Yifru is a name that rings out in the Ethiopian music industry. Born and raised in Addis Ababa in 1952, it was clear from a young age that Dawit had a passion for music. As a young man, Dawit founded several bands, including the Venus Band, Dahlak Band, and Roha Band. These groups would go on to make significant contributions to Ethiopian music, performing with talented musicians such as Hailu Mergia and Mulatu Astateke. But it wasn’t just his bands that made Dawit a legend. His skills as a composer and arranger were renowned throughout the industry. He worked with some of the most popular singers of his time, including Muluken Melese, Neway Debebe and Kennedy Mengesha, among others. His musical influence was so strong that many credit him with shaping the entire genre of modern Ethiopian music.

Today, is still making an impact on the music industry. He serves as a member and Chairman of the Board of the Ethiopian Musicians Association, working tirelessly to promote the interests of musicians in his country. His dedication to his craft and his love for music continues to inspire new generations of Ethiopian musicians.
