EBEN is one of the most promising voices of a living Breton tradition, bridging heritage and contemporary creation with strength, sensitivity, and vision.
EBEN is the compelling song of restored memories, the rising star of Brittany’s night parties, voices and strings telling present time stories.
The band takes its roots in the Breton singing tradition, Kan Ha Diskan (meaning call-and-response singing) and offers a very contemporary musical accompaniment.
The three singers absorbed classic breton singing to create new texts that resonate with today’s world. Written by Marine Lavigne, their lyrics give voice to women, migrants, minorities, and Indigenous people through a modern lens. Their singing connects Kan Ha Diskan with many arrangements shaped by the rich experience of Antoine Lahay on twelve-string and electric guitars, Julien Stévenin on double bass, and Jonathan Dour on five string viola.
Their last album Dinaskañ is an artistic manifesto and call for emancipation and resistance. Through dance, encounters, travel, women’s rights and the freedom to express oneself in one’s own language. And then there is a subject that is very much in tune with the times: the struggle against all forms of oppression and fascism (Dañs ar Bleiz – The wolf dance).
As they tour, their music resonates across cultures, inviting audiences into a world where tradition evolves and voices rise. Their performances are a vibrant celebration where tradition meets innovation, creating a delicate yet powerful musical experience.
