Montreal-based Afro-futurist artist, producer, songwriter, beat-maker, composer, drummer and percussionist, Lionel Kizaba blends traditional Congolese rhythms with electronic sounds in an immersive show where music, percussion and 3D visuals conspire to create a multi-sensory experience. Born and raised in Kinshasa, he went to Canada in 2011 and set out on a new creative journey, starting from scratch, finding his way along his unique musical path. This year he released his second album, Future Village, recorded between Kinshasa and Montreal, collaborating with genre-hopping arranger, Eli Levinson, continuing the quest for a cultural transmission where technology and ancestry converge, singing in English, French, Kikongo, and Lingala. Since his feted debut at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, he’s been animating admirers worldwide, performing on major festival stages in Canada, the USA, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Europe and China.
