La Santa Cecilia

Mexico / USA

The music of Mexican-American band La Santa Cecilia reflects the bicultural experiences of many Latinos in the USA, where deeper roots blend with wider influences, creating a vibrant, natural fusion of Latin rhythms, rock, cumbia, bolero, tango and blues, with songs addressing themes of love, immigration, and social justice. Formed in 2007, the group is led by the warm, soulful voice of Marisol “La Marisoul” Hernández, alongside accordionist and requinto player José “Pepe” Carlos, bassist Alex Bendaña, and percussionist Miguel “Oso” Ramirez. 2014 Grammy Award winners for their second album, Treinta Dias, they have collaborated with artists like Elvis Costello, Los Lobos, and Mon Laferte, and their songs have been featured in major films and TV series. With a busy touring schedule across the Americas, last year they performed sell-out shows in Spain and Portugal.
