The Baltic Sisters

Latvia

The Baltic Sisters are a cross-border folk ensemble consisting of four singers from Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia. They originally came together through their shared passion for the unique art of Lithuanian polyphonic singing known as Sutartinės, a centuries old form of ritual chanting born from the cycles of agrarian life, which almost died out in the mid-20th century, but has experienced a revival now helped to the world stage by The Baltic Sisters. Alongside the captivating Sutartinės, their 2025 debut album, Värav / Vārti / Vartai (the portal, in their respective languages), also includes a blend of Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian folk songs, a repertoire realised by their mutual exploration of their individual musical roots in the ancient folk songs of their sister nations, uncovering similarities and redefining what it means to share a Baltic heritage.
